The European Union is on the brink of a crucial decision regarding the imposition of import tariffs on electric vehicles manufactured in China.
The EU Commission has scheduled a vote among member state representatives to determine whether manufacturers exporting from China to the EU will face additional tariffs starting in November.
The proposed tariffs include 7.8% for Tesla and 35.3% for companies that did not cooperate with the EU's investigation.
The investigation concluded that Chinese state subsidies keep prices artificially low, disadvantaging European firms.
However, the German auto industry fears that Chinese retaliatory measures could outweigh the benefits, potentially jeopardizing access to the Chinese market.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has advocated for further dialogue with Beijing to resolve the trade dispute, with Germany possibly voting against the tariffs.
