The Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Germany is reportedly considering the dissolution of the Development Ministry, according to a report by Politico.
The proposal suggests integrating the ministry into the Foreign Office, aligning with practices in other EU and G7 countries.
This move is argued to enhance effectiveness and efficiency by utilizing the ministry's resources as a tool of foreign policy.
The proposal, however, has not been officially adopted by the FDP's parliamentary group or leadership.
Despite this, Finance Minister Christian Lindner and other FDP leaders have consistently advocated for cuts in development policy, with the coalition government already significantly reducing its budget.
The FDP's internal document highlights the debt brake as a means to eliminate inefficient or ideologically driven programs, suggesting a more streamlined approach to foreign and development policy.
