German Voters Favor Early Elections

Published: 2024-10-31

Recent surveys reveal a significant decline in voter confidence in Germany's current coalition government, known as the "Ampel" coalition.

The dissatisfaction is so widespread that 54% of Germans now support the idea of holding early elections, rather than waiting until the scheduled date in September 2025. This sentiment is fueled by growing discontent with the government's economic policies, particularly among supporters of the SPD and the Greens, who have traditionally backed the coalition.

The CDU/CSU remains the strongest political force, despite a slight dip in support, while the AfD holds steady as the second most popular party.

Economic concerns, especially regarding Germany's economic stability and citizens' personal financial security, are at the forefront of voters' minds, driving the call for political change.
