Germany is set to enhance its air defense capabilities with the introduction of the Iris-T SLM system.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will oversee the deployment of the first system in Todendorf, Schleswig-Holstein.
This advanced system, acquired through the Bundeswehr's special fund, is designed to protect populated areas and infrastructure from threats such as drones and missiles up to 40 kilometers away.
Germany has already supplied four Iris-T SLM and three related Iris-T SLS systems to Ukraine, where they have proven effective against Russian attacks.
The new system will complement existing Patriot systems and is a key component of the European Sky Shield initiative.
An accompanying training center in Todendorf is already operational, training Ukrainian soldiers and will soon be open to all European Sky Shield participants.
