Workers at the Hamburg Port have launched a 24-hour warning strike, organized by the Verdi union, to protest the proposed entry of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) into the Hamburg Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA).
The strike, which began on Wednesday, aims to pressure for a social tariff agreement to protect jobs amid fears of automation and restructuring.
The Hamburg Parliament is set to make a final decision on MSC's acquisition of a 49.9% stake in HHLA, reducing the city's share from 70% to 51.1%.
The deal, supported by the city's SPD leadership, has faced criticism from within the party and other groups, who argue it could lead to job losses and increased corporate control.
Demonstrations have been peaceful but have caused traffic disruptions in the city.
