Helgoland Ferry 'Funny Girl' Rescued

Published: 2024-10-07

The Helgoland ferry 'Funny Girl' experienced a power failure while returning from Helgoland to Büsum, leaving it adrift in the North Sea with nearly 250 passengers on board.

The incident occurred due to an electrical panel failure, which caused both generators and the cooling systems to shut down.

Despite attempts to resolve the issue using onboard resources, the crew had to contact the traffic center for assistance.

Private tugboats were dispatched to tow the ferry to safety, reaching the vessel around 10 PM.

Fortunately, the sea was calm, and no injuries were reported.

The ferry finally arrived at the Büsum harbor early in the morning, much later than its scheduled return.
