Helgoland Ferry Rescued After Power Outage

Published: 2024-10-07

The Helgoland ferry, MS "Funny Girl," experienced a power outage while returning from Helgoland to Büsum, leaving nearly 250 passengers stranded on the North Sea.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening, and the ferry was expected to dock in Büsum by 7:30 PM.

However, a blackout rendered the vessel powerless, necessitating assistance.

Two tugboats eventually towed the ferry to safety, reaching the port of Büsum early Monday morning.

The ferry's crew managed to keep passengers calm during the ordeal, even joking about having enough beer on board to weather the situation.

Meanwhile, the MS "Nordlicht" has been deployed to cover the route temporarily, as the "Funny Girl" undergoes repairs.
