Authorities in Germany are cracking down on illegal fireworks ahead of New Year celebrations.

The Zoll in Hannover has confiscated over 4.4 tons of illegal pyrotechnics from Poland, found in more than 460 packages.

These dangerous items pose serious health risks and are illegal to purchase without proper authorization.

Meanwhile, the Hessian Social Minister has urged citizens to only buy certified fireworks with proper safety markings.

Fireworks in Hessen can only be sold on specific days and used on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with strict restrictions near sensitive areas like hospitals and churches.

Officials warn that using uncertified fireworks is not only hazardous but also a criminal offense.
