Loneliness Hits Young Adults Hardest

Published: 2024-12-12

A recent study by the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) reveals that loneliness is a significant issue among young adults in Germany.

The survey found that 68% of individuals aged 18 to 39 experience loneliness at varying frequencies, with over a third feeling severely affected.

This contrasts with older adults, where only about half report similar feelings.

Experts like Professor Susanne Bücker emphasize that loneliness is a subjective feeling, distinct from merely being alone, and can have serious health implications, particularly for younger people.

Chronic loneliness can lead to stress and exhaustion, impacting both mental and physical health.

Despite its prevalence, loneliness remains a taboo topic, especially among men, who are less likely to discuss their feelings.

The study highlights the need for open conversations and support to address this growing concern.
