In Hamburg, a potential Marburg virus scare was swiftly addressed after two individuals returning from Rwanda showed flu-like symptoms.
The pair, including a medical student who had worked in a Rwandan hospital treating Marburg patients, were tested at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
Fortunately, the tests returned negative, confirming no Marburg virus infection.
Despite initial concerns, authorities assured the public that there was no risk to fellow travelers, as the virus is not airborne and requires direct contact with bodily fluids for transmission.
Both individuals remain under observation as a precaution, with the student isolated until the end of the virus's incubation period.
The incident highlights the importance of vigilance in monitoring potential infectious disease threats.
