Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people across Germany took to the streets to protest against right-wing extremism and the collaboration of the CDU with the AfD.
In Munich, a massive demonstration under the slogan "Democracy Needs You!" drew over 250,000 participants, according to police estimates.
Similar protests occurred in cities like Berlin, where up to 250,000 people marched, and Hannover, where 24,000 joined.
The protests were sparked by recent political developments, including CDU leader Friedrich Merz's controversial reliance on AfD votes to pass stricter migration policies.
Organizers, including civil society groups and unions, emphasized the importance of standing against hate and exclusion.
While the demonstrations were largely peaceful, some incidents of vandalism were reported.
The movement highlights growing public resistance to right-wing politics ahead of Germany's 2025 federal elections.
