Germany is facing widespread disruptions as public sector workers stage strikes over pay disputes.

The Verdi union has called for walkouts in cities like Berlin, Hamburg, and Magdeburg, affecting services such as waste collection, childcare, and healthcare.

Recycling centers are closed, surgeries postponed, and some kindergartens shut down.

Verdi and the Beamtenbund demand an 8% pay increase or at least €350 more per month, plus three extra vacation days.

Employers argue these demands are unaffordable, citing a potential €14.9 billion cost.

Demonstrations are planned, with negotiations set to resume next week in Potsdam.
