Public sector workers in Schleswig-Holstein have launched widespread strikes, disrupting hospitals, daycare centers, and senior facilities.
In Kiel, two-thirds of municipal daycare centers closed, leaving only emergency care in some locations.
Hospitals postponed non-urgent surgeries but maintained critical care services.
Around 2,500 demonstrators marched through Kiel, demanding better pay and working conditions.
The unions are pushing for an 8% salary increase or at least €350 more per month, alongside higher allowances for demanding roles.
Union leaders criticized employers for their lack of investment in public services, warning that fair wages are essential to retain and attract staff.
More strikes are planned as negotiations continue.
