Osnabrück Evacuation for Bomb Disposal

Published: 2024-11-15

In Osnabrück, a major evacuation is set for Sunday as authorities prepare to defuse potential World War II bombs discovered on a former railway site.

Approximately 14,000 residents must vacate their homes by 7:00 AM, with no clear timeline for when they can return.

The operation affects two hospitals, three nursing homes, and the main train station, which will be closed until the bomb disposal is complete.

To protect immobile patients, water-filled containers will be placed around the suspected bomb sites to mitigate any explosion impact.

An evacuation center has been established, and residents are urged to leave promptly to avoid fines.

Hospitals are reducing patient numbers, but emergency services remain available for critical cases.
