Saarbrücken Evacuated for Bomb Disposal

Published: 2024-08-05

On Sunday, around 1,700 residents in Saarbrücken were evacuated due to the discovery of a 250-kilogram World War II bomb.

The evacuation zone extended 300 meters around the bomb's location, affecting the main train station, which was closed to all traffic starting at 11:45 AM.

The bomb was successfully defused shortly after noon, allowing residents to return home.

Emergency services, including about 250 personnel from the fire department, police, and the Red Cross, were involved in the operation.

Those with mobility issues were able to request assistance through a city service hotline.

The bomb was found during construction work in the St.

Johann district last week.
