The recent knife attack in Aschaffenburg, Germany, has raised questions about why the Afghan suspect, Enamullah O.
, was still in the country.
Reports reveal that his deportation was delayed due to overwork at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF).
Although his asylum application was rejected in June 2023, the notification to local authorities came over a month late, missing the deadline for deportation to Bulgaria.
This tragic delay allowed the suspect to remain in Germany, where he later committed the attack, killing a child and a man.
The German government has since increased BAMF staffing to prevent such delays in the future.
