In recognition of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Saxony is hosting various events to honor victims of gender-based violence.
The Saxon Ministry for Equality's building will be illuminated in orange on November 25, 2024, as part of the global "Orange the World" campaign, symbolizing a future free from violence.
Demonstrations and events are planned in Leipzig and Borna, highlighting the alarming rise in violence against women and girls in the region.
In 2023, Leipzig alone reported 3,196 cases of domestic violence, marking an 8.3% increase from the previous year.
Saxony's Equality Minister, Katja Meier, has called for expanded support and protection services to address this growing issue.
