German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has urged EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to implement significant reforms to reduce bureaucracy and boost European competitiveness.
In a detailed letter, Scholz called for easing regulations, particularly for industries like automotive and steel, to strengthen innovation and reduce strategic dependencies.
He proposed delaying sustainability reporting requirements and increasing thresholds for company obligations.
Scholz also emphasized the need for incentives for German-made electric vehicles and pragmatic support for climate-friendly steel production.
Additionally, he advocated for flexibility in energy policies and resolving trade tensions with China over electric car tariffs.
Scholz’s proposals aim to position the EU as a global leader in key sectors.
