Scholz Stands Firm Amidst Criticism

Published: 2024-09-07

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz remains steadfast in his bid for a second term despite recent electoral setbacks and internal party criticism.

Scholz is confident that the Social Democratic Party (SPD) will secure a strong mandate in the 2025 federal elections, allowing them to lead the next government.

He emphasizes the importance of pragmatic and realistic policies to advance Germany, dismissing the influence of poor poll ratings.

Scholz, who likens himself to a runner with good endurance, is unfazed by the prospect of another four years in a coalition government.

He also dismisses the idea of stepping aside for Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who is currently more popular in polls, asserting that Pistorius supports his candidacy.

Scholz's optimism persists despite the SPD's historically low election results in recent state elections.
