Berlin's Dyke March Highlights Political Tensions

Published: 2024-07-29

In Berlin, the annual Dyke March for lesbian visibility took place, coinciding with the ongoing societal conflicts surrounding the Middle East.

Approximately 9,000 participants joined the march, which saw both pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli activists present, leading to chants and some antisemitic slogans.

The police reported 28 restrictions and similar numbers of criminal charges, including assault and incitement to hatred, with 300 officers deployed for safety.

Meanwhile, another demonstration titled "Queers for Palestine" attracted around 4,700 people, advocating for anti-colonial and anti-capitalist struggles.

Protesters carried banners stating "No Pride in Israel Apartheid" and emphasized their fight against systemic oppression.

Both events highlighted the intersection of LGBTQ+ rights and global political issues, showcasing the diverse voices within the community.
