Brandenburg Braces for Rising Floodwaters

Published: 2024-09-18

Brandenburg is on high alert as rising water levels have caused the Lausitzer Neiße, Elbe, and Spree rivers to overflow their banks.

Authorities have declared flood alert level 1 in several areas, prompting precautionary measures such as relocating animals and machinery from flood-prone zones and inspecting flood protection systems.

In Frankfurt (Oder), preparations are underway with the construction of protective walls and sandbag barriers, as the city braces for potential flood levels that could reach alert level 4. Despite the looming threat, local officials assure residents that there is no need for panic, citing the city's experience with past floods.

Meanwhile, the Oder region is also preparing for possible high water levels, with emergency services and residents actively engaged in protective measures.

The situation remains dynamic, with further assessments and adjustments expected as water levels continue to rise.
