Brandenburg Braces for Severe Flood Threat

Published: 2024-09-22

As Brandenburg braces for a potential flood crisis, Minister-President Dietmar Woidke visited Frankfurt (Oder) to assess preparations.

With water levels expected to rise significantly, reaching the highest alert level 4 at Ratzdorf by Tuesday, authorities are on high alert.

This level indicates possible widespread flooding, necessitating evacuation plans.

The region, which suffered severe floods in 1997, has since improved its flood defenses.

However, the looming threat has prompted local officials to prepare sandbags and reinforce protective barriers.

Woidke emphasized the importance of solidarity and readiness, urging communities to support each other during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, cross-border cooperation with the Polish town of Slubice is crucial as both areas face similar risks.
