Climate activists from the group "Letzte Generation" disrupted air traffic at Cologne/Bonn Airport on Wednesday morning by gluing themselves to a runway.

According to police, five activists cut through a fence and attached themselves to the asphalt near the takeoff and landing areas.

The protest is part of an international campaign demanding a global exit from fossil fuels by 2030, with similar actions planned at airports in over ten countries.

Authorities are currently working to remove the activists, but it remains unclear how long the air traffic will be affected.

Legal action has been initiated against the protesters for violating assembly laws and endangering air traffic.
