Climate activists from the group "Letzte Generation" have disrupted air traffic at major German airports, including Cologne/Bonn and Frankfurt, in a series of protests demanding a transition away from fossil fuels by 2030. On July 24, five activists glued themselves to a runway at Cologne/Bonn Airport, causing significant delays and cancellations.
The following day, six activists managed to breach security at Frankfurt Airport, leading to a temporary halt of all flights.
Authorities reported that the protests resulted in numerous flight cancellations and diversions, with calls for stricter penalties against such actions.
The activists argue that their actions are necessary to highlight the urgent need for climate action, while government officials are pushing for harsher laws to deter similar disruptions in the future.
