A Chinese national is under investigation for suspected espionage after allegedly taking photos at a naval base in Kiel, Germany.

The incident occurred on December 9, when the man reportedly gained access to the base and was later detained by security personnel.

The Schleswig-Holstein State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is leading the investigation, with support from the Federal Military Counterintelligence Service.

Authorities are examining the suspect's mobile phone and other items to determine if the images were intended for foreign intelligence purposes.

The man is currently in pre-trial detention, and the case is being overseen by the Flensburg Public Prosecutor's Office, which specializes in state security matters.
