FDP Pushes for Migration Reform Unity

The German Free Democratic Party (FDP) has proposed a "Migration Pact of the Center" to unite major parties on migration policy before the upcoming Bundestag elections.

The plan involves merging the failed "Zustrombegrenzungsgesetz" with reforms to the European Asylum System (GEAS).

FDP leader Christian Dürr urged the SPD, Union, and Greens to collaborate, warning against leaving room for populists to gain ground.

However, the proposal faces skepticism, with CDU officials calling it election tactics and SPD and Greens citing legal concerns over family reunification restrictions.

The Greens also criticized the CDU for relying on far-right AfD votes in earlier debates.

The FDP hopes for a resolution by February 11, but divisions remain stark.
