The Free Democratic Party (FDP) in Germany is pushing for urgent cross-party discussions to tighten asylum laws and control illegal migration.
FDP's deputy parliamentary leader, Christoph Meyer, emphasized the need for a high-level meeting involving key political figures like Chancellor Olaf Scholz and CDU leader Friedrich Merz.
This initiative follows the collapse of previous migration talks between the coalition and the opposition.
The FDP is also advocating for a new security package in response to a recent knife attack in Solingen, which includes expanded knife bans and reduced benefits for certain asylum seekers.
Additionally, the FDP has proposed a "Nine-Point Plan" to cut social benefits for migrants required to leave Germany, aiming to pressure their Green coalition partners to adopt stricter asylum policies.
This plan suggests reducing support to a bare minimum to discourage staying in the country.
