German Airports Paralyzed by Strikes

Published: 2025-03-09

Germany's air travel has come to a standstill as workers at 13 major airports, including Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin, stage a 24-hour strike.

Organized by the Verdi union, the strike involves public service employees, ground handling staff, and aviation security personnel, demanding better wages and working conditions.

Over 3,400 flights have been canceled, affecting more than 510,000 passengers nationwide.

Frankfurt Airport, a key hub, has suspended all passenger operations, urging travelers to stay away.

The union seeks an 8% pay raise or at least €350 more per month, alongside improved benefits.

Employers have criticized the strike's scale, calling it disproportionate.

Negotiations are set to resume later this month.
