German education officials are taking steps to strengthen democracy education in schools across the country.

In Saxony, Education Minister Christian Piwarz has introduced a new action plan called 'W for Values' to enhance political education.

The plan includes 76 recommendations from a panel of experts, focusing on media literacy, cyberbullying prevention, and combating online hate speech.

Meanwhile, education researchers are calling for nationwide standards in political education, citing concerns about students' limited knowledge of history and politics.

They recommend strengthening politics and history lessons, particularly in primary schools where political learning is often neglected.

These initiatives aim to actively engage students in democratic processes and address gaps in their understanding of crucial historical events.
