Germany's Job Turbo Boosts Ukrainian Employment

Published: 2024-09-30

Germany's efforts to integrate Ukrainian refugees into its workforce are showing promising results.

According to Labor Minister Hubertus Heil, the "Job Turbo" initiative is gaining momentum, with 8,500 Ukrainians finding employment, training, or self-employment in September alone.

This figure is more than double compared to the same month last year.

Despite economic challenges, around 266,000 of the 700,000 Ukrainian refugees of working age in Germany are now employed, with 213,000 in jobs that require social insurance contributions.

However, challenges remain, such as the complex process of recognizing foreign qualifications and language barriers.

Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Employment Agency, emphasized the importance of maintaining the current welfare system to facilitate job placements, arguing against reverting to the asylum seekers' benefits law.

Language acquisition programs are underway to further aid integration.
