The German government is working on a new strategy to bolster its defense industry, aiming to simplify state involvement in defense companies.

This move comes amid concerns from the industry about being excluded from strategic planning.

The strategy, which is still under internal review, seeks to define defense projects as of "overriding public interest," potentially speeding up planning and approvals.

It also considers easing export restrictions and increasing state participation in key defense firms, such as the planned involvement in Thyssen-Krupp Marine Systems.

However, the proposal has faced criticism, particularly from the FDP, which argues that state involvement could hinder competition and delay necessary insolvencies.

The strategy is expected to be presented to the cabinet in September, with the aim of enhancing Germany's defense capabilities in response to global security challenges.
