Nationwide Healthcare Strike Looms

The German trade union Verdi has announced a nationwide warning strike in hospitals, care facilities, and emergency services on Thursday.

The strike, part of an ongoing wage dispute with federal and municipal employers, is expected to cause significant disruptions, though emergency care will remain available.

Verdi is demanding an 8% pay increase, or at least €350 more per month, along with higher bonuses for challenging work hours and three additional days off.

Employers have rejected these demands as unaffordable.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for March 14-16 in Potsdam.

Demonstrations are planned in cities like Oldenburg and Hannover, with further strikes not ruled out.
