Verdi Strikes Shake Public Sector

The German trade union Verdi has initiated a wave of warning strikes across several regions, including Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria, targeting parts of the public sector.

These strikes come in response to what Verdi describes as a disappointing start to wage negotiations with federal and municipal employers.

The union is demanding an 8% salary increase, or at least €350 more per month, alongside better compensation for demanding roles and additional benefits for trainees.

Public services such as hospitals, energy providers, and local administrations are among those affected.

Verdi leaders argue that the public sector has long relied on overburdened employees, warning of a potential collapse if conditions do not improve.

The strikes are expected to intensify in the coming days to pressure employers into meeting their demands.
