In 2023, organized crime in Germany has inflicted financial damages amounting to 2.7 billion euros, doubling the previous year's figures.
This marks the highest damage in a decade, as reported by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).
Cybercrime has been identified as the primary contributor to these losses, with one gang alone causing 1.7 million euros in damages by stealing bank data.
Despite the high number of cases, with 642 investigations into organized crime, the use of violence remains prevalent, posing a significant threat to public safety.
The German government and BKA have expressed concerns over the increasing brutality and societal influence of these criminal groups, which are expanding their reach into the economy and society.
Efforts to combat these crimes are ongoing, but challenges remain, particularly in tracing and confiscating the illicit profits of these organizations.
