Germany Sees Rise in Violent Crimes

Published: 2025-04-02

Germany's 2024 crime statistics reveal a mixed picture.

While overall crime dropped by 1.7% to 5.83 million cases, violent crimes rose by 1.5%, reaching their highest level since 2007. This includes increases in sexual offenses, assaults, and incidents involving weapons.

The decline in overall crime is largely attributed to the partial legalization of cannabis in April 2024, which significantly reduced drug-related offenses.

However, cybercrime also saw a slight decline, though experts caution about unreported cases.

The statistics highlight a growing concern over violence, with 6.3% of violent crimes involving knives and a rise in gun-related threats.

Authorities emphasize the need for continued vigilance and targeted measures to address these trends.
