After a decade of controversial rallies, the anti-Islam movement Pegida held its final demonstration in Dresden.
Despite expectations of 3,000 to 5,000 participants, only about 500 people attended, according to a reporter's estimate.
The counter-protest was similarly sized.
Pegida's leader, Lutz Bachmann, cited health and financial reasons for ending the demonstrations but hinted at future projects.
The movement, which began in 2014, once drew tens of thousands but has dwindled in recent years.
Pegida has been classified as extremist by German authorities, and its influence has waned as the far-right AfD party gained prominence.
