A dramatic shootout unfolded at Hamburg's Neugraben S-Bahn station when plainclothes officers attempted to control a group of men following an altercation.

As the men fled, at least one shot was fired at the officers, prompting one to return fire.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

A massive police operation, involving 20 patrol cars and a helicopter, led to the arrest of the suspected shooter three hours later at the nearby Neuwiedenthal station.

The weapon was recovered elsewhere, though details remain undisclosed.

Train services were briefly halted for evidence collection but have since resumed.
