Saxony's Election: CDU vs. AfD Showdown

Published: 2024-07-31

Saxony is set to elect a new parliament on September 1, 2024, with the CDU and AfD in a tight race for dominance.

Current Minister-President Michael Kretschmer of the CDU has been in office since 2017, but recent polls show the AfD gaining ground, both parties hovering around 30% support.

The newly formed BSW, led by Sahra Wagenknecht, is also emerging as a contender with around 15% in the polls.

Voters can use the Wahl-O-Mat tool to compare their views with party positions on key issues like asylum policy, education, and health care.

With 19 parties on the ballot, the election could significantly reshape the political landscape in Saxony, especially for smaller parties like the SPD and Greens, which are struggling to gain traction.
