Storms and Chaos in NRW

Published: 2025-01-06

North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) is experiencing turbulent weather this week.

Following a snowy weekend, temperatures rose to an unseasonably warm 15°C on Monday, accompanied by heavy rain and severe storms.

The storms caused widespread disruptions, with fallen trees blocking roads and railways, and parks and public spaces being closed for safety.

The Deutsche Wetterdienst (DWD) warned of orkanartige (hurricane-like) gusts in higher regions.

By Tuesday, temperatures dropped to 7°C, with rain turning to sleet in some areas.

The week ahead remains unpredictable, with more rain and possible snow midweek.
