Supermoon and Comet Light Up Night Sky

Published: 2024-10-17

This Thursday evening, skywatchers are in for a celestial treat with two spectacular events gracing the night sky.

A Supermoon, appearing larger than usual due to its proximity to Earth, will rise in the southeast.

This phenomenon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, about 357,000 kilometers away, during a full moon phase.

Meanwhile, in the west, the comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas will be visible shortly after sunset.

This comet, a rare visitor from the outer regions of our solar system, can be seen with the naked eye, though its visibility might be affected by the bright light of the rising Supermoon.

For the best viewing experience, find a dark location with a clear view of both the eastern and western horizons.

Weather permitting, this dual spectacle promises a memorable night for astronomy enthusiasts.
