German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has announced she will not seek the Green Party's chancellor candidacy in the next election.
Speaking at the NATO summit in Washington, Baerbock cited the need to focus on her current role amidst global crises.
The decision, revealed in a CNN interview, marks a significant shift for the Greens.
Baerbock, who was the party's candidate in 2021, emphasized her commitment to diplomacy in light of conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East.
This move potentially clears the path for her colleague, Economy Minister Robert Habeck, although he has not yet declared his intentions.
Baerbock pledged to support her party's campaign efforts while continuing her work in foreign affairs.
