Deutsche Bahn Secures Wage Deal

Published: 2025-02-16

The Deutsche Bahn and the EVG union have reached a new wage agreement, avoiding potential strikes.

The deal includes a 6.5% pay increase for 192,000 employees over 33 months, starting in April 2025. Additional benefits include a €200 one-time payment in April and extra compensation for shift workers, which can be converted into vacation days.

Both sides expressed satisfaction, with the EVG achieving many of its demands, such as job security until 2027. However, the long contract duration raises concerns about adapting to future economic changes.

The agreement also comes amidst the Deutsche Bahn's financial struggles and ahead of Germany's pivotal elections, which could impact the company's restructuring plans.
