Deutsche Bahn Faces Union Demands

The Deutsche Bahn and the EVG union have begun critical wage negotiations for 192,000 employees.

The railway company has proposed a 4% pay increase over 37 months and additional compensation for shift workers, but the union demands a 7.6% raise and a €500 bonus for members.

Both sides aim to avoid disruptive strikes, with the next round of talks scheduled for February 4 in Berlin.

The negotiations are under pressure due to the upcoming federal elections and the company’s financial struggles, particularly with its DB Cargo division.

While the union appreciates some concessions, it insists the offer falls short.

A resolution is sought before the peace obligation ends in March.
