Germany's two major churches, Catholic and Protestant, lost over a million members in 2024, according to new statistics.

The Catholic Church now has 19.77 million members, while the Protestant Church counts 17.98 million.

Despite a slight decline in exit rates compared to 2023, membership continues to shrink due to fewer baptisms and more deaths.

The Diocese of Münster has overtaken Cologne as the largest Catholic diocese, with 1.63 million members.
