Germany Faces Rising Russian Espionage Threat

Published: 2024-10-14

German intelligence agencies are raising alarms over increasing Russian espionage and sabotage activities within the country.

Recent incidents, including a narrowly avoided disaster involving a firebomb in a DHL package at Leipzig airport, highlight the growing threat.

The package, believed to be linked to Russian operatives, could have caused a catastrophic plane crash if not for a delay in its flight.

German officials, including the heads of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Federal Intelligence Service, warn that Russia views Germany as an adversary, with espionage efforts intensifying both in quantity and sophistication.

The intelligence chiefs are calling for enhanced powers to counter these threats effectively, emphasizing the need for unity among security agencies to protect national interests.
