Hamburg's Election Showdown

Published: 2025-02-27

With just three days until Hamburg's Bürgerschaftswahl, the SPD, led by Mayor Peter Tschentscher, remains in the lead with 32% support, according to a recent Insa poll.

The CDU has overtaken the Greens for second place, with 17% and 16% respectively.

The Left Party has gained momentum, reaching 13%, while the AfD stands at 11%.

Smaller parties like the FDP and BSW are unlikely to enter the Bürgerschaft, polling at 3% each.

The final televised debate between the SPD, Greens, and CDU candidates will air Thursday evening, offering a last chance to sway undecided voters.

Meanwhile, CDU candidate Dennis Thering has proposed making Hamburg a weapon-free zone to enhance safety.

The SPD aims to maintain its coalition with the Greens, though the rise of the Left Party could complicate this.

Hamburg's political landscape is poised for a tight race as voters prepare to head to the polls.
