Nationwide Transit Strikes Disrupt Six States

Public transportation in six German states, including Hessen, will come to a standstill this Friday as the Verdi union stages a one-day strike.

The action follows failed wage negotiations for over 2.5 million public sector workers.

Verdi is demanding an 8% pay increase or at least €350 more per month, along with three additional vacation days.

Employers have yet to present a counteroffer, prompting Verdi to escalate pressure.

In Hessen, cities like Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, and Kassel will see significant disruptions, with U-Bahn services particularly affected.

The strike also highlights broader issues, such as staff shortages and increasing workloads in public transit.

Negotiations are set to resume in mid-March, but tensions remain high.
