Transit Strikes Disrupt Hessen Cities

Public transport in several cities across Hessen, including Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, and Offenbach, has been severely disrupted due to a three-day strike by the Verdi union.

The strike, part of an ongoing public service wage dispute, has halted all U-Bahn and tram services in Frankfurt, with limited bus services in Offenbach and Wiesbaden.

Commuters are advised to rely on S-Bahn, regional trains, and buses, though these are expected to be crowded.

Verdi is demanding an 8% pay increase or at least €350 more per month, along with higher allowances for unsociable hours.

Demonstrations have also taken place, with thousands of workers marching in Frankfurt to support the demands.

The next round of negotiations is scheduled for mid-March in Potsdam.
