Public Transport Strikes Escalate

Public transport in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has been severely disrupted as the Verdi union continues its strikes over a wage dispute.

The strikes, affecting nine transport companies, have left buses and trams idle, with limited emergency services in some areas.

Verdi demands a €430 monthly wage increase and a €500 annual bonus, which employers argue is unaffordable.

A recent vote showed 94% of union members support indefinite strikes, with results expected Thursday.

Negotiations, stalled since January, may resume next week, but tensions remain high.

Critics accuse Verdi of prioritizing its agenda over public needs.
