Saxony Votes Amid Winter Break

Saxony is at the center of Germany's 2025 Bundestag elections, with 3.3 million eligible voters across 16 constituencies.

By early afternoon, voter turnout reached 39.6%, slightly higher than the 36.4% recorded at the same time in 2021. The election, held during the region's winter holidays, has seen a significant number of voters opting for mail-in ballots, estimated at 25.5%.

The AfD, which dominated in 10 of Saxony's constituencies in 2021, faces new challenges under reformed election laws that limit direct mandates.

Key battlegrounds include Leipzig and Dresden, where tight races are expected.

Polls remain open until 6 PM, with results anticipated later tonight.
